Heather Collin

Hi – my name is Heather Collin.   I am originally from Dingwall in the north.  I was brought up in the Free Church but in my teenage years the family started attending St. Clements Parish Church where I became actively involved.  Leaving school at 16, I was lucky enough to get employment as Secretary to the senior partner of one of the local solicitors firms and worked there for three years.    As a girl guide in the town I helped out with the local Cub Scout Pack and continued after leaving school and when the team from Scottish Headquarters of the Scout Association visited Dingwall as part of a Scottish Roadshow in 1976, I was given the opportunity to move to Edinburgh and work as an Administrator at Scottish Headquarters.   Moving to the big city from a small town at 19 was quite a huge change – and challenge –  for me!  I lodged with the Paton family in Morningside.   Iain Paton was training to be a minister and was also involved in the Scout Group at Cluny Parish Church.  I became involved in Church life there, eventually helping out with the Cub Scout Pack and then took over as Cub Scout Leader.   In 1978 I met my husband and we got married at Cluny Church in 1984.  We settled down to married life and had two sons before moving to Peebles in 1991 through my husband’s work.
Shortly after moving to Peebles, I came to my first service here (I had never been to a church without pews before but I immediately felt at home and was made welcome!)  and on the second Sunday I attended, Jim Wallace our then minister had a  note in the Order of Service asking for someone to help the Church Secretary.  That is how I got involved in St. Andrews Leckie Church.   In 1993 our third son was born and shortly after that I took over as Church Secretary working a few hours a week.  In 2001 the Kirk Session decided to extend the hours and the office is now open every weekday morning.
I truly enjoy my work as Church Administrator.  I have grown in my faith here and feel deeply involved.  It’s a busy office and the work is both varied and challenging – and these are exciting times for us as a church family.    I hope I am a welcoming beacon for those who come through the church office door for whatever reason.
The office is open Monday-Friday 9.30am-12noon
