The young kangaroo is called a Joey

A baby kangaroo is very tiny when it is born. It measures about 2.5cm long. At first it stays in its mother's pouch and feeds on her milk. When it grows a bit bigger it can poke its head out and eat the grass. When it is bigger still it will come out of the pouch but it stays beside its mother and goes back into her pouch if it is frightened.
